Environment award winners announced
The winners of the 2006 IBEC Environment Awards have been announced today.
The awards recognise the success of Irish industry in maintaining and improving the quality of the environment.
Six awards in three categories were presented, an overall winner and a commendation in each category.
The overall winner of the Managing for Sustainable Development Award was Janssen Pharmaceutical Limited, Little Ireland, Co Cork.
Roche Ireland Limited, Clareclastle, Co Clare received the Cleaner Technologies Award for its redesign of existing manufacturing processes that resulted in both environmental and economic benefits.
Veolia Environmental, Tallaght, Dublin 24 won the IBEC Environmental Excellence Award for its plastics treatment and recycling process. Its operations have diverted over 1,000 tonnes of plastic from disposal by landfill.
“Industry has accepted its environmental responsibilities and has made very substantial progress in recent years,” said IBEC director general Turlough O’Sullivan. “The entries show that good environmental practice can bring economic benefits.”
