Marshall masterclass well worth the Oscars

02/06/2006 - 21:27:40
Rob Marshall’s Memoirs of a Geisha Girl (Buena Vista, €24.99) picked up three Oscars this year and with its sumptuous costumes and excellent cinematography it’s not hard to see why.

Ziyi Zhang plays Sayuri, a victimised girl who falls for the mysterious Chairman (Ken Watanabe) and resolves to become the perfect geisha.

A beautiful film to watch, this adaptation of Arthur Golden’s bestseller is a joy for real film lovers.

Marshall lends a hand with the audio commentary, while among the featurettes are a look at how the film was adapted, and several others on the world of the geisha.

A visual feast.
