Govt accused of failing to protect children’s rights
01/06/2006 - 08:26:52The Children's Rights Alliance has accused the Government of failing to honour the United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child.
In a report published today, the organisation criticises what is says are major shortcomings in the area of child protection and the treatment of children from ethnic and under-privileged backgrounds.
The study, which is due to be presented to the UN in Geneva next week, recommends constitutional change to ensure children's rights are given express recognition.
