Roche promises regulations for ‘puppy farms’
31/05/2006 - 07:49:30Minister for the Environment Dick Roche has promised to regulate the dog-breeding industry in response to concerns about so-called ‘puppy farms’.
The move has been recommended by a working group set up to examine the situation follow raids on a number of premises where dogs were being bred in appalling conditions.
Mr Roche said yesterday that he would consult vets, the Gardaí and breeders before introducing new legislation setting out minimum standards for such establishments.
