Dowie set for Charlton appointment

30/05/2006 - 08:26:17
A new era begins at Charlton today with Iain Dowie expected to be named as the club’s new manager.

The former Crystal Palace boss is set to be unveiled as the replacement for Alan Curbishley, who led the Addicks for 15 years.

Dowie’s backroom team looks like it will include Les Reed, who worked with Curbishley during the club’s promotion to the Premiership in 1998 and who also served as director of technical development at the Football Association for two years until 2004.

Former player agent Andrew Mills is expected to serve as the Addicks' general manager.

Veteran Addicks defender Chris Powell, 36, is also understood to be ready to step up his coaching duties at the south-east London club.
