Brown looks to impress

30/05/2006 - 08:19:13
Kelly Brown wants to justify his place in the Scotland team by impressing tomorrow against the Barbarians at Murrayfield.

The Border Reivers back-row forward has been recalled to the starting 15 by head coach Frank Hadden for the final Murrayfield game of the season.

The 23-year-old has not played for his country since coming off the bench in the autumn Test against New Zealand last November, but he has been named on the summer tour to South Africa.

With Jon Petrie and Donnie Macfadyen both returning to full fitness, Brown believes the time is right to take his chance ahead of the Glasgow pair for a regular place in the back row.

He said: “There is so much strength in depth in the back row in Scotland at the moment, I was delighted just to be named in the training squad last month.

“Then to be picked in the squad to go to South Africa and named in the starting line-up against the Barbarians has been brilliant. Now it’s up to me to justify my place.”
