Knock Airport celebrating 20 years in business
30/05/2006 - 07:55:26Knock Airport in Co Mayo is celebrating 20 years in business today.
The airport was officially opened by former taoiseach Charles Haughey in May 1986 and carried just over 9,000 passengers to two British destinations during its first year of operation.
It has grown remarkably since then and expects to serve a total of 650,000 people on 25 routes this year.
It says it hopes to facilitate one million passengers per year by 2009.
