Woosnam sticks to winning formula

28/05/2006 - 13:18:39
European captain Ian Woosnam has decided to keep the same order of play for the Ryder Cup at the K Club near Dublin in September.

In 1997 Seve Ballesteros switched things around by putting the fourballs first rather than foursomes and that is the way Woosnam has chosen to go as well.

“We’ve done better in fourballs and the quicker we can get points on the board the better,” commented the 48-year-old after finishing his 500th European Tour event – the BMW Championship – with a 70 and one-over-par total.

“It wasn’t very difficult to think about. It’s been the best way for us over the last few times.”

Europe have won the last two matches and four of the last five.

Woosnam was paired with Colin Montgomerie on the final day at Wentworth and outscored the eight-time European number one by two. But at least Montgomerie had made the cut – he missed it in seven of his previous nine events.
