Extra women GPs positive for women’s health

There has been a big jump in the number of women GPs practising in Ireland and the number of nurses working in doctors' surgeries.

More than 90% of patients now have access to a female doctor or nurse in their local clinic.

Dr Eilis ni Riain of the College of General Practioners pointed out that these GPs were more likely to provide a range of services, such as smear tests and contraception, and therefore the improvement in the male: female ratio is also having a direct positive impact on women's health.
