Fit- again Joyce returns for Galway

26/05/2006 - 21:21:35
Former captain Padraic Joyce has earned a recall to the Galway starting line-up after recovering from an Achilles tendon injury.

The 29-year-old attacker looked set to miss out on Galway's Connacht SFC opener against Sligo last Sunday but the weather gods smiled on him with heavy wind and rain forcing the postponement of the quarter-final.

The tie will take place tomorrow evening at Pearse Stadium in Salthill (throw-in 5.30pm) and a fighting fit Joyce has been named in the Galway side. Joe Bergin has made way.

Joyce's inclusion at left half-forward - although the three-time All-Star will no doubt switch into the full-forward line - is the only change Galway boss Peter Ford has made to his originally selected side.

Injury doubts Joyce, half forward Matthew Clancy (hamstring) and defender Damien Burke (ankle) all trained with the panel on Tuesday night, but only the Killererin clubman has forced his way into the team.

GALWAY (SFC v Sligo) - A Keane; K Fitzgerald, F Hanley, D Meehan; A Burke, D Blake, M Comer; P Clancy, P Geraghty; N Coleman, M Donnellan (capt), P Joyce; D Savage, M Meehan, S Armstrong.
