Third phase of Roscommon development denied planning permission

26/05/2006 - 15:16:38
The third phase of a multi million euro eco-tourism project in Co Roscommon has been turned down by An Bord Pleanala.

The first two phases were turned down earlier this year following appeals by An Taisce, an environmental lobby group called CLEAN and the Department of the Environment.

The development was to have included a 100 bedroom five star hotel with spa, 300 holiday chalets, an 18-hole golf course and a range of other leisure facilities.

While hundreds of jobs would have been created in the building phase of this major development, it was hoped that 500 jobs would eventually be created on a long-term basis.
