Taoiseach urges both sides urged to compromise in partnership talks

Unions and employers are being asked to be flexible when they return to the partnership talks table this weekend.

Speaking at IMPACT's conference in Killarney, Bertie Ahern said he is worried that they will be unable to reach a deal.

The talks aimed at reaching a new social partnership agreement were adjourned earlier this week, with a significant gap remaining between unions and employers on the issue of pay.

Ahead of their resumption on Sunday Bertie Ahern has appealed for both sides to make concessions.

“There can be no winner in this,” the Taoiseach said, “it has to be a genuine compromise, it is a partnership agreement.”

“Responding today IMPACT's Peter McLoone said they were fully behind social partnership, but would do everything possible to get a good deal for their workers.
