Police to clamp down on reckless drivers
Police in the North have warned they'll crack down on reckless drivers during what is a bank holiday weekend across the border.
They say they'll be on the look-out for drink drivers, speeders, people using mobile phones and defective vehicles.
Drivers who still refuse to wear seatbelts, and those with children who also fail to do so, will also be targeted.
The police helicopter will also be used over the weekend.
Eight people died on the North's roads over the Easter holiday.
Police say most people drive safely but there's a hard-core of repeat offenders who ignore all warnings, putting themselves and other road users at risk.
Meanwhile, officials in Belfast and Dublin are due to report by the end of this month on progress towards mutual recognition of driver disqualification and penalty points on either side of the border.
This will allow gardaí to impose penalties on drivers from the North and vice versa.
