Health professionals meet to discuss national stroke strategy
Health professionals will gather at the Burlington Hotel, Dublin today for the 9th Annual Stroke Study Day, organised by the Irish Heart Foundation.
This will include an update on the National Stroke Audit being carried out by the Irish Heart Foundation in association with the Department of Health and Children. The study will establish for the first time the resources available for treating stroke in Ireland.
There is currently no overall national or regional policy on stroke within the Irish health services.
The proposed National Audit of Stroke Care project will provide an important advance in quantifying the preparedness of Irish hospitals for modern stroke treatment, as well as providing a nationwide profile. The aim of the project is to conduct a national audit of public acute hospital and community stroke services.
Minister for Health and Children Mary Harney will also attend to launch a new patient information booklet on stroke.
Developed by the Irish Heart Foundation, the 64-page booklet provides a guide on all aspects of stroke for those affected by stroke and their carers.
The booklet is available from the Irish Heart Foundation (IHF) by calling (01) 668 5001 or can be downloaded from the IHF website www.irishheart.ie in the Patient Information section.
