ISEQ back in the black

The financials were on the up this morning as the ISEQ index of shares bounced back with gains of 88.07 to 7598.58.

Anglo Irish was up 25c to €12.20, AIB gained 19c to €18.49 and Bank of Ireland rose 5c to €14.35.

Meanwhile, Irish Life & Permanent was up 7c to €18.82 after heavy losses in recent days. The bank's chairperson Gillian Bowler said at its AGM this morning: “I can say for now that we’ve had a really good start to the year and the renewed momentum that we saw across our businesses, in the second half of 2005, has continued strongly into this year."

In the construction sector, CRH was up 48c to €26.43, while Kingspan rose 25c to €13.30.

Meanwhile, bookmakers Paddy Power gained 48c in early trading to stand at €14.60.
