One dead, two missing after sinking of Irish trawler

25/05/2006 - 07:34:22
A Spanish fisherman has died and two others are still missing following the sinking of their Irish-registered trawler off the south-west coast of England last night.

The Dinish, whose 10-man crew are all Spanish, issued a distress call at 9.30pm around 180 miles off the Isle of Scilly.

She sank just minutes later.

Six of the crew managed to deploy a liferaft and were picked up by a passing ferry, while the skipper was found clinging to wreckage and taken aboard a boat bound for New York.

The body of another crew member was also recovered and is being taken to Cork, while a search and rescue operation is underway for the other two missing men.
