Ahern plays down union concerns about decentralisation
25/05/2006 - 12:32:16The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, has played down the possibility of unrest over decentralisation scuppering a new national pay deal.
SIPTU president Jack O'Connor warned yesterday that his union might recommend rejection of such a deal unless concerns about decentralisation are addressed.
The union is calling for state agencies to be removed from the decentralisation scheme due to opposition from staff who do not want to move out of Dublin.
Speaking this morning, however, the Taoiseach said he did not believe this was a serious issue.
He said more than 10,000 public servants wanted to move out of Dublin and the only problem was finding a way to organise this.
