Bono painting to try to attract foreign investors

25/05/2006 - 15:55:44
It is hoped a painting of Bono's face will help attract foreign companies to Ireland.

A portrait of the U2 frontman by acclaimed Irish artist Louis le Brocquy is being used in a new four million euro campaign by the IDA.

The first ad appeared in today's Wall Street Journal.

The idea is to grab the attention of business leaders and portray the Irish mind as creative and innovative.

IDA chief executive Sean Dorgan says these are key qualities in today's knowledge-based marketplace.

“It's saying something that investors actually understand and have said to us," Mr Dorgan said.

“It's reinforcing something they think about Ireland, which is that we organise ourselves very well, we innovate, we do new things, we're constantly moving forward.

“It won't win investment for itself but it will help us to win, particularly for the more valuable and knowledge-based thing for which we're now competing.”
