Quinnell has 'change of heart' on coaching role
Scott Quinnell has turned his back on a coaching role with the Scarlets after signing a two-year contract at Stradey Park.
The Scarlets, who yesterday unveiled ex-Leeds boss Phil Davies as their new rugby director after Gareth Jenkins left to become Wales supremo, had identified Quinnell to work with the region’s younger talent and coach Llanelli’s Welsh Premiership team.
But the former Wales, Lions and Llanelli number eight has now informed Scarlets chief executive Stuart Gallacher he will not be taking up the post.
“Scott had signed a two-year contract with the Scarlets and was due to commence his new role with us at Stradey Park on June 1,” said Gallacher.
“His role with us was to take responsibility for the development of the younger players within the squad, while also being head coach to the Llanelli RFC Premiership side.
“Scott informed me that he had had a change of heart and no longer wished to take up the appointment. This was accepted, and we wish him every success in the future.”
