Birmingham know Jerome fee

23/05/2006 - 18:40:19
Cameron Jerome’s agent insists Birmingham know exactly how much it would cost to buy the Cardiff striker after Steve Bruce revealed a bid had been rejected by the Welsh club.

The 19-year-old striker scored 20 goals in 47 appearances for the Bluebirds last season, and Birmingham boss Bruce remains hopeful of landing him as the Blues look to build towards promotion following relegation from the Premiership.

But the player’s agent, Tony Finnigan, insists the matter should be straightforward after the two clubs held negotiations recently.

“Andy Gray and I, Cameron’s advisers, sat down with the Birmingham and Cardiff hierarchies and agreed what the price would be,” he told BBC Sport.

“It was very clear, everyone agreed and Birmingham know what they have to do.

“This has been going on for two weeks now but everyone knows what is needed and it is simple really.”

However, Finnigan did reveal there are clubs interested who would offer Jerome Premiership football next season.

“Cardiff have to sell, I guess, because they want a new stadium so they have put him up for sale,” he said.

“Sheffield United had a £2.4m (€3.5m) bid rejected three weeks ago and I know there are a few others interested, West Brom included.

“The thing is, if someone asks you for £3 for something and you offer them £2.80, if you are lucky they might agree to sell.

“Cameron is just a 19-year-old who wants to further his career and better himself and that is the most important thing.”
