HSA to launch clampdown on quarry safety

The Health and Safety Authority says it is to launch a clampdown on workplace safety in quarries.

This follows two deaths in the sector this year - the second at a quarry near Mullingar at the weekend when a 23 year old man was killed when he was caught in a conveyor during maintenance.

HSA chief executive Tom Beegan is warning that quarries which fail to implement health and safety law face possible closure.
