El Guerrouj retires
22/05/2006 - 21:39:46Morocco’s double Olympic champion Hicham El Guerrouj has announced his retirement from athletics.
The 1500m world record holder, who won the double of 1500m and 5,000m at the Olympic Games in Athens, also won four world titles at the shorter distance.
But El Guerrouj has not raced since Athens because of injury and a back problem forced him out of the world indoor championships in Moscow earlier this year.
His continued problems with injury have led to the 31-year-old to call time on his career.
