ICTU General Secretary disappointed at pay talks progress

Union leaders say they are hopeful the next round of social partnership talks will be concluded before the end of the week.

Employers, unions and Government officials have resumed talks at Government Buildings, with a view to reaching a new deal on pay and conditions for workers.

On his way into the talks, ICTU General Secretary David Begg said the issue of pay still remains the main sticking-point.

“We haven't made a huge amount of progress on the pay side which is the third pillar in all of this,” he said.

“In the nature of things that tends to come at the very end because people make a judgement as to the totality of issues but I have to admit the last few days have been disappointing in terms of the rate of progress.”
