Prodi: Cabinet ready to be announced
Italian premier-designate Romano Prodi wrapped up negotiations with his centre-left allies early today on the final makeup of his Cabinet.
Prodi said he would announce later in the day that he had formed a government.
“The Cabinet list is wrapped up and it ended well,” Prodi said in the early hours of today after emerging from a final session with his allies which had begun last night.
Prodi must return to the presidential palace to inform the new head of state, President Giorgio Napolitano, who gave him the formal mandate yesterday evening, of his success.
A swearing-in ceremony would quickly follow.
Then, five weeks after narrowly scoring victory in parliamentary elections, Prodi and his allies can finally get down to the business of governing and end the political limbo that followed his victory in bitterly contested elections.
