Ouija Board primed for Coronation Cup

17/05/2006 - 13:00:56
Ouija Board is on course to try to become the first mare for 15 years to win the Vodafone Coronation Cup.

The 2004 Vodafone Oaks heroine seeks to emulate David Elsworth’s In The Groove, who struck for the female sex in the Group One over a mile and a half in 1991.

“Ouija Board is an intended runner in the Coronation Cup, and will go for the race providing I am happy with her,” said trainer Ed Dunlop.

“She’s been half way round the world twice for her two runs this year, in Dubai and Hong Kong.

“A lot of horses will be having their first run back at Epsom, but she has come out of her last race in very good condition and I am very happy with her.”

“Although she hasn’t run at Epsom since her impressive Oaks victory, I’m sure she will handle the track again, and we are hoping for decent ground.”

Champion Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien, successful last year with Yeats, is set to rely on Ace – runner-up to Shirocco in the Breeders’ Cup – while Godolphin have three possibles in Cherry Mix, Portrayal and The Geezer.

A total of 18 horses were left in the Coronation Cup at the latest acceptance stage and include Shirocco, winner of last autumn’s Breeders’ Cup Turf and recent winner of the Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket.
