Consumers urged to demand lower supermarket prices

Consumer campaigner Eddie Hobbs has urged shoppers to bombard Ireland's top supermarkets with e-mails demanding that they drop their prices.

The Rip-Off Ireland presenter says companies like Tesco and Dunnes Stores should be reducing prices by up to 20% following the abolition of the Groceries Order earlier this year.

However, he said consumers needed to take the matter into their own hands to force the issue.

"Change in consumer behaviour is the quickest way of getting action," he said.

"I'm suggesting that members of the public send a message to Tesco and Dunnes asking them 'Where are the discounts?'."
