Gift from Bono listed in Bush financial report
U2 frontman Bono presented US President George Bush with an iPod and a contemporary translation of the Bible last year, newly-released documents reveal.
Lucky Mr Bush also got a pair of binoculars as a Christmas gift from Vice President Dick Cheney, according to the financial disclosure forms for 2005, made public by the White House.
In return he treated his second-in-command to a steel-framed hammock.
Mr Cheney was also given four guns over the year – before he accidentally shot a friend on a quail-hunting expedition this February.
They included a pre-war, single-action Colt 45 revolver from US Firearms Manufacturing Inc.
It was donated to a firearms museum in Mr Cheney’s home state of Wyoming.
Overall the Vice-President did far better than his boss, accepting 20 gifts, while Bush only got 16.
But he is spoilt for choice when it comes to playing with his presents.
For the second year in a row, the avid cyclist got a hi-tech mountain bike from John Burke, president of Trek Bicycle Corp.
Mr Bush also received an indoor cycling trainer and cycling shoes from other donors.
For days on his ranch cutting brush, he got a chainsaw and accessories.
And for quieter moments there were two hand-carved wooden puzzles and two poker chip sets.
Mr Cheney’s gifts included several expensive pieces of art, one an oil painting of his home by Thomas William Jones.
