New Pompey deal for Primus
Defender Linvoy Primus, unsung hero of Portsmouth’s great escape from relegation, has been handed a new contract.
The veteran centre-back has agreed a year’s extension to his current agreement, keeping him at Fratton Park until the summer of 2008 – at least.
Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp has put Primus, who will turn 33 in September, in his future plans despite being promised a major war-chest to spend in the transfer market.
Redknapp was impressed with the former Charlton and Reading player’s dependability and powerful presence during the last 16 games of the season - playing in all but the final two minutes despite a hernia which he had repaired last week.
Primus said: “The deal is agreed and that is very pleasing for me. Everything is in place. I just need to go in and sign it in the next few days. I want to finish my career at Pompey, and this takes me closer to achieving that.”
