Cork go top and end Shels unbeaten run
15/05/2006 - 22:02:55Cork City 2 Shelbourne 1
Sublime goals from George O’Callaghan and Neale Fenn ended Shelbourne’s unbeaten league start to the season as champions Cork leapfrogged to the top of the table.
Jason Byrne, who had a penalty saved in the Setanta Cup semi-final defeat at Turner’s Cross last month, just beat Michael Devine from the spot after the keeper had brought him down to give Shels a 40th minute lead.
But O’Callaghan outfoxed the Shels wall and keeper Dean Delaney with a sublime 25-yard free kick which he curled into the near top corner of the net three minutes later.
Fenn then won it for City four minutes into the second half when volleying home after Roy O’Donovan ghosted past two defenders to cross.
