Report seeks greater regulation of alternative therapists

A report commissioned by the Department of Health has recommended greater regulation of people working in the area of alternative medicine.

The report says there is a huge disparity in training and standards for "complementary therapists" like herbalists, acupuncturists and practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine.

It says a system of robust, voluntary self-regulation should to be introduced for the estimated 2,000 people who work in the sector.
