McDowell to review use of term “non-national”
14/05/2006 - 10:54:34The Minister for Justice Michael McDowell is to review the use of the term 'non-national' following a request from a Fianna Fáil TD.
Dublin West TD Pat Carey has said the phrase has racist connotations, and implies that an immigrant is living here illegally.
He wants the term removed from the Immigration Act of 1999.
Deputy Carey said a more suitable description for immigrants would be "non-Irish national".
