GPs back report which finds no A&E crisis

GPs have agreed with aspects of a controversial new report which dismisses claims of a crisis in the country's Accident and Emergency Units.

The study by a group of UK healthcare consultants has been given to the Department of Health, according to an article in today's Sunday Independent.

The report is said to blame chronic problems in A&E not on Government under-funding and insufficient beds, but on badly-run hospitals and a shortage of GPs.

The Irish College of General Practitioners heard at their AGM in Galway today that if primary care had more GPs and more GP resources, it would avoid many of the problems being experienced in A&Es.
