Sly tempted by Oaks bid
Speciosa could bid for a Classic double as trainer Pam Sly is leaning towards a crack at next month’s Vodafone Oaks.
The Danehill Dancer filly gave Sly’s yard a fairytale success in the Stan James 1000 Guineas last Sunday, making all under Michael Fenton to beat Confidential Lady by two and a half lengths.
And now Sly has her sights on more glory at Epsom in the mile-and-a-half race on June 2 if fellow owners Michael Sly, the trainer’s son, and Dr Tom Davies agree.
“I think we will be seeing Micky on Sunday and the four of us will sit down and have a talk about where we go,” said Sly.
“We would be leaning towards the Oaks at the moment as my concern would be the right-handed tracks at the Curragh and Ascot.
“I think she will get a mile and a quarter but I don’t think the mile and a half at Epsom is particularly stiff.
“We need to have a talk between the four of us first before we make a decision.”
If Speciosa is to run in the Oaks, she will have to be supplemented at a cost of £20,000 on May 27. Coral make her a 12-1 shot to bag a second Classic.
