Minister calls for border commission to solve dispute

12/05/2006 - 16:09:13
Transport Minister Martin Cullen has called for an independent commission to be set up to decide on the boundary between Waterford city and south Kilkenny.

The Waterford TD says Environment Minister Dick Roche could thereby remove politics from the decision on a bid by the local city council bid to extend their boundary into their neighbouring county.

They say the measure is necessary to deal with growth in the city, however Kilkenny County Council strongly opposes the measure.

Minister Cullen says a boundary commission is the best way of solving the dispute.

"I think a good outcome is possible and it'll be to the benefit of the people of Waterford and South Kilkenny as well," he said.
