Consultants seek Tánaiste's help in contract row
Consultants are looking to the Tánaiste for help in a row over contracts.
Negotiations have stalled with the HSE and members of the Irish Consultants Association are looking to fix a date to get them back on track.
They are in talks with Mary Harney this afternoon, where they will air their grievances on a number off issues, including the A and E crisis.
Dr Josh Kievney, President of the IHCA says the row over contracts will only move forward if their differences are put aside.
“The Minister is the head of the Health Service in this country. Doctors are pivotal in running the Health Service and it's important that the differences that are there are set aside quickly, that way we can all move forward,” he said.
“Obviously if nothing is happening, the Minister will have to take a more active roll in it.”
