Industrial production down in first quarter

The seasonally adjusted volume of industrial production for manufacturing industries for the three month period January to March 2006 was down 0.9% on the preceding three month period.

On an annual basis production for all industries in March 2006 was 1.8% higher than in March 2005.

The “Modern Sector”, comprising a number of high-technology and chemical sectors, showed an annual increase in production for March 2006 of 2.0%, while an increase of 1.4% was recorded in
the “Traditional” sector.

The seasonally adjusted industrial turnover for manufacturing industries was 2.0% lower in the three month period January to March 2006 when compared with the preceding three month period.

On an annual basis turnover in March 2006 was 2.5% higher than in March 2005.
