Munster’s walking wounded on the mend

10/05/2006 - 14:44:09
Munster's interest in the Celtic League may be over but there was positive news from their travels over the last week as their walking wounded are all firmly on the road to recovery.

There was concern last evening when prop Frederico Pucciariello had to retire in the second half of the loss to Llanelli but his injury was nothing more than a dead leg.

Munster have been hit hard by injuries in recent weeks, but the management expect to have as near to a full strength squad from which to choose for Saturday week’s Heineken Cup final showdown with Biarritz.

Rob Henderson’s ankle is responding to treatment and he will be in contention for the final while Christian Cullen’s ankle injury is believed to be nothing more than a sprain and is also expected to be fit.

Jerry Flannery’s hamstring strain has also responded to treatment and he will be fit while David Wallace has recovered from a viral infection.

The two most serious injury victims are Marcus Horan and John Kelly.

Horan is recovering from a calf injury while Kelly damaged his shoulder in the win over Leinster.

Both players will be given as much time as possible to recover and no decision will be made on their availability or otherwise until next week.
