Lyon keep sights on Drogba

10/05/2006 - 11:52:56
Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has admitted his side can only “dream” about signing Chelsea striker Didier Drogba, but is determined not to give up hope.

The 28-year-old Ivory Coast striker joined the Blues for a French record fee of £24m from Marseille in 2004, and has subsequently played a key role in helping Jose Mourinho’s team win back-to-back Premiership titles.

He scored 10 goals in 29 league games this term, and a further five in Europe, as Chelsea successfully defended their title.

However five-time French champions Lyon are keen to bolster their attack ahead of next season as they bid to conquer the Champions League after going out at the quarter-final stage in two successive years.

Aulas has reportedly contacted Chelsea president Roman Abramovich about the possibility of signing the Blues striker, even though he knows it will take a sizeable fee to prise him away from London.

“Didier is one of the best players in Europe,” Aulas said in L’Equipe. “But I think Chelsea want to keep him.

“However, we will do all we can to get him and continue to dream about him coming here.”
