Berger quit threat
Aston Villa midfielder Patrik Berger has revealed he will quit the game if he suffers another injury-hit season.
The Czech Republic player played nine times last season because of injury and the former Liverpool and Portsmouth man has admitted he has spent enough time on the sidelines.
Berger, who moved to Villa Park on a free transfer last summer, has made it clear he will not go through the same frustration again.
Berger told the club website, www.avfc.co.uk: “When you have injury problems like I have had this season, the hardest part is the mental side of it.
“When you’re coming in for treatment every morning and you see the fit lads going out to enjoy themselves in training. That’s the hardest bit of it.
“As soon as you can start doing some work in the gym and begin to look forward, it’s a lot easier. If you have a D-day when you’ll be fit, that’s a big help. But if you haven’t got it, it’s very difficult and frustrating.
“If you have one injury in the season, it’s fine, but if you’re basically going through the same stuff four times a season, it’s not the easiest.
“Also, if you’re younger, you look at injuries a little bit more differently than I do, because I’ll be 33 this year.
“Basically, If I had to go through the same again next year, I’d be thinking that it was time to hang up my boots and go home.
“I know 33 is still young, but football-wise I’m not the youngest any more and I don’t really want to have a season like this season. I would rather go home and enjoy my life.”
