Domingo: I've no plans to retire

10/05/2006 - 09:19:43
Opera star Placido Domingo has ruled out retiring in the immediate future and plans to continue singing for as long as possible.

The 65-year-old, who was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Classic Brit Awards in London earlier this month, believes he is currently singing near the peak of his powers.

He says: "Nobody knows. I have been singing so many years it's logical it's going to be sometime sooner rather than later but I'm not saying I want to leave. I don't say when it will be the right moment.

"I have a lot of respect for the public and I have a lot of respect for myself, so I just want to sing as long as I will be believable in the characters and believable vocally."
