Live Register up 1,200 in April
The seasonally adjusted Live Register total increased from 157,000 in March to 158,200 in April, an increase of 1,200.
This compares with a decrease of 600 in March.
In the year to April 2006, there was an unadjusted increase of 2,947 (+1.9%). This compares with an unadjusted decrease of 2,132 (-1.4%) in the year to March 2006.
The monthly increase in the seasonally adjusted series was made up of an increase of 700 men and 500 women.
The standardised unemployment rate in April was 4.5%. This compares with 4.4%, the latest seasonally adjusted unemployment rate from the Quarterly National Household Survey.
In the month, the estimated number of casual and part-time workers on the Live Register was 7,993 men and 12,914 women.
The Live Register is not designed to measure unemployment. It includes part-time workers (those who work up to three days a week) and seasonal and casual workers entitled to unemployment assistance or benefit.
Unemployment is measured by the Quarterly National Household Survey and the latest seasonally adjusted figure, for September to November 2005, is 92,100 unemployed.
