Frenchman Anthony le Tallec claimed his fifth goal of the season as beleaguered Sunderland gave themselves every chance of a first home Premiership win of the season.
Le Tallec glanced an Andy Welsh cross past Fulham goalkeeper Mark Crossley with 32 minutes gone to give the club’s long-suffering fans something to cheer.
Steed Malbranque had earlier volleyed over for the visitors in a half of few clear-cut chances.
