Survey finds widespread concern about anti-social behaviour

04/05/2006 - 12:38:21
The majority of people living in urban areas are concerned about anti-social behaviour, according to the Labour Party.

The party said today that just over half of respondents to a survey it conducted expressed medium or high levels of concern about such behaviour.

The highest levels of concern related to loitering, street drinking, property damage and joyriding.

Respondents to the survey said the problems were being caused by a lack of gardaí, poor public lighting, poor design of estates, a lack of parental control and a lack of facilities for young people.

The figures are based on just over 2,000 responses that the Labour Party received to more than 23,000 questionnaires posted to households in 10 urban areas countrywide.
