'No information' on alleged CIA prisons

02/05/2006 - 18:18:40
EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana told a special European Parliament committee today he has “no information” that CIA agents interrogated al-Qaida suspects at secret prisons in Europe.

Solana said he and EU governments would welcome further clarification from Washington on alleged incommunicado detentions of terror suspects.

He said he had “no information whatsoever at this point in time of trips, or that detainees are moved” between European nations.

“I have no information whatsoever that tells me with certainty that any of the accusations, allegations, rumours that have taken place in the last period of time are true,” Solana told the committee a week after it said data from the EU’s air traffic agency prove the CIA has conducted more than 1,000 clandestine flights in Europe since 2001.

“I have never seen this question brought up by the EU member states or the European Commission, the only debate that has taken place on this was an informal dinner between (EU) foreign ministers and ministers of the Nato alliance,” he said.
