FÁS staff mount work-to-rule over decentralisation plans
02/05/2006 - 09:32:54FÁS staff have begun engaging in a surprise work-to-rule action this morning as part of their campaign of opposition to the decentralisation programme.
Workers at the agency's head offices nationwide are refusing to answer telephones and check emails to highlight their concerns with plans to move their jobs to Birr.
The employees are accusing FÁS and the Government of breaching the voluntary nature of decentralisation by limiting promotions to people who are willing to relocate to the Offaly town.
Today’s protest is due to end at 1pm, but SIPTU has warned that further stoppages will be imposed with limited notice in the coming days and weeks if staff concerns are not addressed.
