Troops hit by Afghan bomb
A bomb exploded near a convoy of Canadian troops travelling along a highway in southern Afghanistan today, slightly injuring two soldiers and destroying their vehicle.
The bomb was planted west of Kandahar in the district of Maiwand on the road leading to the western city of Herat.
The soldiers were taken to the main US military base in Kandahar. Their wounds were not life threatening.
Canadian troops closed the highway near the explosion to see whether more explosives had been planted.
Rebels from the Taliban, ousted from power in late 2001, have been blamed for attacks on Afghan and foreign troops in southern Afghanistan.
Four Canadian soldiers were killed in a roadside bomb explosion on April 22, an attack the Canadian military described as the deadliest against their forces since they deployed in Afghanistan in 2002.
That bombing happened in the village of Gomboth, about 25 miles north of Kandahar.
