Spurs hold on to fourth spot
FT Tottenham 1 Bolton 0
Aaron Lennon kept Tottenham on course for a fourth-placed finish in the Barclays Premiership while also showing his international credentials to England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson, who was in the stands at White Hart Lane.
Lennon scored the only goal of the game against a Bolton outfit who had a strong penalty appeal turned down when Michael Dawson fouled Stelios Giannakopoulos.
The win means Spurs will finish ahead of Arsenal if they win their final game of the season, at West Ham next week.
Bolton then thought they should have had a penalty after Dawson hauled down Giannakopoulos, but Wiley did not award a spot-kick.
Jay-Jay Okocha, who had been brought on as Bolton chased the game, then forced a wonderful save from Robinson at full strength.
Defoe was replaced by Andy Reid after 77 minutes, while Henrik Pedersen was brought on for Speed. Murphy also picked up an injury and was replaced, with Tottenham holding on for the points.
