Scoreless draw for Ireland

30/04/2006 - 12:11:13
Ireland's women's hockey squad earned a scoreless draw with the world's number six New Zealand (0-0) in their rain-delayed encounter at the Women's Hockey World Cup Qualifier in Rome this morning (10am Irish time).

The result leaves Ireland fourth in pool B on three points. New Zealand are third on four points with the USA and Korea tied at the top on seven points each.

The top two in each pool automatically qualify for September's World Cup.

The third and fourth place teams in each pool battle it out for the final qualifying spot, so Ireland are in line for those play-offs with games against the lower-ranked Italy (3pm tomorrow), and Azerbaijan (2.45pm, Tues May 2) still to come.
