Irish mothers opting for caesarean births

New figures show the rate of caesarean births in Ireland has increased by 72% in less than 10 years.

Last year, 45% of mothers chose caesarean deliveries.

This compares with 1998 figures, when just 7.5% of caesareans were elective, with the remainder carried out due to emergency.
