Gardaí launch bank holiday road safety campaign
28/04/2006 - 07:05:31The Gardaí are today launching a special road safety campaign ahead of the May bank holiday weekend.
Operation Lifesaver will run from today until midnight on Tuesday and will focus particularly on tackling drink-driving.
So far this year, 134 people have died on Ireland's roads, an increase of 19 on the figures for the same period last year.
The number of motorists arrested for drink-driving has increased by 18% over the past year.
